Tata Steel Central Maintenance Sourcing Engineering (CMS-E) is a service department dedicated to supporting the technical teams at the IJmuiden factories by assigning engineering orders to firms specializing in mechanical, electrical, and civil fields. This new department aims to streamline maintenance requests and bridge the gap between the market and customers through a strategic approach.

Transitioning from a project pilot to a full department:

• Establishing internal and external workflows, including SAP implementation
• Forming partnerships with seven major engineering firms
• Operational, tactical, and strategic management with engineering partners
• Advocating for the new working methods within Tata Steel, from the shop floor to technical leaders
• Coordinating workflows with Tata Steel’s contract, project, calculation, and CAD vault departments
• Managing annual as-built budgets from the factories
• Setting up and working with agile practices in a SharePoint Kanban environment
• Being a liaison

The CMS-E pilot project has evolved into a fully integrated department within Tata Steel HTD (Hoofd Technische Dienst), ensuring that each euro spent delivers even more engineering value.
